Parent Armando Hurtado who has a daughter that will begin preschool this week says, “The importance of Early Education and preschool is to ensure that my daughter will be going into kindergarten knowing math concepts and able to keep up with the lessons that teachers will be giving.”
In addition to school activities that are designed to help our preschoolers get ready for school, CUSD's Preschool Program also provides meals and snacks to children. The Preschool program is currently available in fifteen elementary schools within Compton Unified School District.
And while the early education students and their parents had fun playing these games at Tibby, there was actually lots of "learning" going on. The games challenges students to add, subtract and even multiply and divide.
Program Assistant, Darrylon Evans, who taught preschool for 17 years, says, “By introducing (the preschoolers) to math at such an early age it gives them those concepts that they need for kindergarten because our curriculum is tied into the common core standards [preparing them for what the kindergarten level will be introducing them to once they transition to elementary school].”
